What is Zenmed for Acne Scars?

It’s a kit including 2 products:

1) Renewing Microdermabrasion Complex: a granular clay mineral formulation to provide intensive dermabrasion on the surface of the skin.

This formula affords an immediate skin-smoothing effect and with regular, daily use, helps to visibly minimize discolorations and small marks on face.

The most common complaint about microdermabrasion creams, though, is that they cause adverse reactions like irritations or breakouts. Often, this is because the micro dermabrasion cream uses chemicals and irritants which don’t suit a freshly peeled skin. Zenmed Dermabrasion formulation contains only natural ingredients, is very gentle and highly effective for treating scarring on even the most sensitive of skin types.

After MicroDermabrasion Complex, apply sparingly to affected areas, rubbing in until fully absorbed.

This product should be used in the evening and the use of sunscreen is highly recommended. Sun exposure should be minimized.

2) Skin Eraser: It is an Ascorbic-Glycolic-Lactic acid product that effectively exfoliates the upper layers of the skin helping minimize imperfections, dullness, hyperpigmentation, discoloration, bumpiness and fine lines and wrinkles. Esthetician-grade 30% Glycolic Acid, pH 3.5.

These natural acids are also known as Alpha-hydroxy acids (AHA). They are naturally occurring acids, derived from sugars in particular plants or in milk. Some examples are Glycolic Acid (Sugar Cane), Lactic Acid (Milk), Tartaric Acid (Grapes), Citric Acid (Citrus Fruits), Malic Acid (Apples), and Mandelic Acid (Bitter Almonds). These acids work at the very base of the stratum corneum, dissolving the cement that holds dead skin cells together. This allows for an increase in cell turnover and influences the structure of new stratum corneum being made. The skin Eraser used a gentle lightening process that will not bleach or damage your skin.

My experience: Don’t expect it to completely remove your scars. Whether or not $60-70 for this product is worth it depends on how horrible your scars are, how much it bothers you and how much disposable income you have. For me, it was worth it.

Any type of acne lesion, including comedones, papules, pustules or nodulocystic lesions, may result in scarring.
It’s impossible to know how much a particular person will scar, if at all.
Early treatment of lesions is the best prevention for acne scarring.


Patients who delay starting antiacne medications for at least 3 years from acne onset, have a greater degree of scarring than those who start acne treatment earlier.
Isotretinoin (Accutane) theraphy is the only preoven cure of acne and should be instituted early in the course of severe acne to prevent scars.
Light therapy can also speed up the healing of active lesions, reduce inflammation, and improve or prevent acne scars.
Superficial chemical peels are also effective.

Wichever treatment you use, you may want to add a depigmenting agent to help prevent exacerbation of acne related skin darkening.

Sometimes treatment is begun too late or simply fails to prevent scars from forming. Some people are also prone to pigmentation and keloid formation. The less severe the acne, the less the risk of developing acne scars.

Remember:to give you the best results, a dermatologist will first treat the acne and get it under control. If you have a tendency to develop acne scars, new acne breakouts can lead to new acne scars.

Before you read about makeup for acne scars, consider the following general guidelines:


1.scar tissue is less permeable than healthy;

2.the scar should be cleaned but not pretreated with a moisturizer;

3.the foundation should be applied with a cotton swab.

Corrective makeup, has a considerable success in the medical field.
There are several levels of camoufage.

To hide the scars in general I recommend:

1.apply a light coat of transparent hair gel on the scar;

2.apply a bit of powder;

3.then apply your normal foundation.

Even treatments with glycolic acid can be a valuable aid to mask and hide the scars.

The major problem in camoufage scars is represented by color variations between the tissues.
The darkest shadow should be applied in the most full scars while atrophic scars should be covered with a lighter cosmetic.

To remove cosmetic camoufage a makeup remover cream with special solvents is necessary.

In the case of very visible scars you can ask for advice to a plastic surgeon.
The permanent micro-tatoo, for example, can soften the texture of the scar tissue.

With a special saline injected into each scar, the skin is plumped similar to the way fillers are used. However, this is only the initial effect. It is a phenol based chemical peel mixed together with many other ingredients that penetrate deeply through the skin.

The Exoderm greatly reduces or eliminates wrinkles and acne scars.

The Treatment can be repeated
not later than one year.

The Exoderm is not contraindicated in patients with heart, liver or renal problems. In any case, before peeling back in a protected environment (room surgery), followed by a night of hospitalization,
clinical analysis should be performed.

The classic phenol peel causes arrest of melanin synthesis, thus inducing permanent hypopigmentation. This side effect does not occur with the Exoderm peel.

Exoderm peel was shown to be superior for the treatment of acne scarring, as compared with laser peeling after using simultaneous treatment with both modalities in the same patient.

Glycolic acid is part of the family of alpha hydroxyl acids. They are a family of naturally acids such as lactic acid (milk acid), malic acid (from apples), tartaric acid (wine), citric acid (citrus).


Glycolic acid is derived from sugar cane, which has a molecular weight lower than the other (2 carbons), and better penetration.

Glycolic acid at high concentrations (50-70%) is used exclusively for medical use to treat specific diseases of the skin.

It has a dual action:

* The first is to smooth, moisturize and give brightness to the skin through a peeling of the surface layer of the skin (stratum corneum), facilitating and stimulating cell renewal and thus combating the effects of aging. Indeed, the epidermal cells (keratinocytes) for action of glycolic acid, multiply thus promoting a significant increase in the spinous layer of young cells did.
* The second is to activate the physiological mechanisms by which increases synthesis of collagen, obtaining an improvement in overall skin tropism.

The Glycolic Acid, promoting superficial peeling, contributes to eliminate the pigmented cells, also allows better penetration of hydroquinone, a substance that blocks the formation of melanin.

It also works as a powerful exfoliant which also evens out the top and bottom area of a scar. Scars have reportedly become flatter and less visible with the use of a glycolic acid product for 6 months to a year.

There are 50% and 70% solutions as well, performed only by professionals.

Personally, I have experienced once-a-week peelings with glycolic acid 30% at home could be very helpful in reduction of facial scars and creating a smooth skin.

I recommend you to start using low strengths of Glycolic Acid because your skin needs to get used to it first. You don’t want to damage your skin, so always start with low strengths first.

The principle of micro-needling (dermaroller) consists in exploiting the natural ability to self-healing.


The body reacts to the introduction of micro-needles, how to react to any object that penetrates the skin. The difference is the size of the object. The inclusion of small and thin surgical needles (specially designed) means that the cutaneous nerve receptors receive the same type of stimulus and react as if they were in the presence of a superficial skin lesion. The needles are so thin that can cause tissue lesions.

This “nerve stimulation” triggers the healing process.

Skin cells, within 1 to 2 mm around the needle, send a signal to the growth of undifferentiated cells. In turn, these signals stimulate the proliferation of new cells, for example, fibroblasts that are transformed into collagen and elastin.

The task of migrating fibroblast is the point of needle insertion.
The final mission is to transform these cells into collagen, which integrates with the existing one in the epidermis.

While a single puncture has no effect, hundreds of microscopic needles induce sufficient collagen formation.

Even the cells lining the blood vessels (endothelial cells) and in particular those of the capillaries are stimulated. They react to this stimulus by inducing the formation of new capillaries, thereby enhancing the vascularization of the skin.

This technique can be applied to any area of the body, in contrast to ablative techniques . Depending on the conditions of the skin an initial course of 2-3 treatments is recommended.

Since the newly formed collagen requires an aging time average of six weeks, an interval of about two months between the treatments is recommended.

The day after the treatment you can resume the social life, with the aid of a slight make-up.

Mosaic Surgery is an effective treatment of acne scars.


The technique involves the removal of unsightly little holes of the skin replacing them with intact skin. The dermis is taken usually from the area behind the ear and placed with a surgical trill called Trilix at the point where the gap is present.

Stages of surgery of acne scars

With a special microsurgical drill, a portion of the damaged dermis is withdrawn. The micro-cutting is done under local anesthesia.

With the same drill used for micro-millimeter removal a piece of healthy skin is inserted into the skin. The incorporation “mosaic” is jointed, without requiring sutures or surgical glue.

The removal of acne scars requires one or two sessions of 30 minutes each, performed at intervals of 15-20 days.

After the session of Mosaic Surgery a surgical patch is applied.
Within ten days the skin will be perfectly healed.The little holes disappear, as well as traces of micro-surgery, the skin will be more compact and beautiful to see.

Often, after the micro surgery, a skin laser resurfacing is performed to to refine the results.

Even the scars left from chickenpox can be successfully treated with Mosaic Surgery.

Microdermabrasion is a non-invasive and non-chemical removal of the outer layer of dead skin cells.


The removal of these skin cells encourages the growth of new skin in treated areas. During the procedure, tiny aluminum oxide crystals are sprayed on the skin surface to remove the outer side. At the same time is used suction to remove dead skin and crystals from the skin.

The force of the spray and suction can be increased by using a strong spray that deeper penetrates in the outer layer of skin. Now, healthy skin grows in the treated area by replacing the affected tissue with scars with new tissue. Wrinkles and scars become gradually smaller with successive treatments of microdermabrasion.

Microdermabrasion works extremely well for fine lines, wrinkles and superficial scars.
To see the results most people need between 5 and 12 treatments. The number of treatments varies depending on the size and number of scars treated. Treatment sessions usually last 30 to 45 minutes, but sessions to treat scars can last until 2 hours.
Does Microdermabrasion completely eliminate superficial scars?
Many people have reported great success with the treatment of some scars with microdermabrasion. Microdermabrasion is designed to treat only some areas of the epidermis, the top skin. During the formation of acne scars, collagen and elastin in the dermis can break and can not return to their normal structure, thus leaving those scars in the skin. Even the skin stretches during the formation of scars ant it becomes thinner and more polished. While microdermabrasion is not designed to treat deep acne scars, may still have positive effects in eliminating visible signs in the skin (the epidermis) due to acne scars.

What does this mean? It means you can dramatically reduce the appearance of superficially acne scars by subjecting them to microdermabrasion treatments. Currently there is no evidence showing the effectiveness of microdermabrasion completely eliminate acne scars.However, it is amply demonstrated its effectiveness in reducing acne scars, especially those formed recently.

MaMa Lotion claims to combat some skin problems such as fine lines and wrinkles, freckles, acne scarring, hyperpigmentation, acne blemishes, large pores, melasma. His 20% AHA formulation contains 10% Mandelic acid and 10% Malic acid with a 2.5 ph. It is now known as M2 High Potency Skin Refinish.

Malic acid is the principal acid contained in apples and many other fruits and vegetables.Mandelic acid is an antibacterial ingredient, and malic acid is a humectant that keeps skin hydrated. MaMa Lotion also contains algae extract, an anti-inflammatory ingredient.

My experience: It is a good exfoliant. It reduces hyperpigmentation from my acne but it doesn’ t improve my old indented scars.
I’ve been using this product for about 3 months now. I have definitely noticed an improvement in my brown and red spot from acne.
I use it about every night. It is to apply, smell good and helps fades hyperpigmentation.
I am hopeful that the results I have had so far will continue to improve the quality of my skin.
The product is really easy to apply.
In just a couple of days, the hyperpigmentation started fading. It’s been 2 weeks and I can go out without any makeup because the pigmentation is so faint now. I couldn’t be happier. You should only be applying a little amount to your whole face-you can’t layer it over just one part of your face otherwise you may cause peeling.
